CIT Tuggeranong Location Announced

Published: 23 Oct 2015

Today Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) has moved a step closer to establishing a new presence at Tuggeranong with the announcement of the location and signing of the lease for the new premises.

The new campus will be established on two floors of 205 Anketell Street, in the heart of the Tuggeranong CBD. The existing building will be fully refurbished and fitted out to accommodate a range of courses including business, IT, science, childcare, media, and communication. It will also include a mock court for forensics, fraud control and legal services training.

CIT will actively engage with local businesses, entrepreneurs and the community to support their skills needs and attract Canberrans from other areas to study some of CIT Tuggeranong's unique offerings.

The space will be flexible and dynamic to accommodate a range of training modes and functions. High speed wi-fi will be available across the campus.

CIT Board Chair Mr Craig Sloan says it's a really exciting opportunity for Canberrans.

"This campus will offer a convenient study location in Canberra's south that is close to businesses, public transport and services. Students will also benefit from the specialised training options and high-spec facilities unique to this campus," Mr Sloan said.

CIT Chief Executive Ms Leanne Cover says the new campus will be a very different look to what people may have come to expect through their CIT experience.

"Canberra Institute of Technology has been serving the Canberra community for almost 90 years, and a lot of our classroom spaces have been long established and are very traditional, and no longer the best fit for contemporary learners.

"With a new campus in the heart of the Tuggeranong town centre, we will be able to create a very modern learning environment that maximises the available space, is flexible and dynamic to suit a range of purposes, and facilitates the sharing of ideas and collaboration.

"The learning and professional development opportunities will appeal to new learners, existing learners, upskillers and professionals. The vibrant and adaptable space will be an important addition to the Tuggeranong town centre," Ms Cover says.

The refurb is scheduled to be complete ready for course offerings to start in Semester 2, 2016.

Any changes to the location of course offerings for 2016 will be published for students at
