After turning 56, I was not ready to sit back in an armchair and watch the world go by. After working as a nurse for over 13 years and caring for my three children, I knew it was my time. Although nursing was very physical work I enjoyed working with people and wanted to continue this.
I was hesitant about starting the Diploma of Welfare but after finding the class was made up of people from all sorts of backgrounds, abilities and ages, I knew I was in the right place. Everyone can draw on their own life experience but CIT can teach the best practice way of doing things.
I would recommend the course to anyone interested in assisting people. For me, this has been a real motivation and I am planning to study social work in the future.
Everyone was so supportive from the library offering research skills, to extra help on how to write an essay. I am a fairly confident person but the extra support really helped me to ease into study.
