I like working with timber and building things so I knew that carpentry was for me. Teachers are really good and what I am learning is directly applied at work. Being at CIT also means I get to learn all about the trade so if I am not applying it now at work I may do in the future.
I was surprised that in this course you learn a little bit of everything from concreting, bricklaying, and joinery. It does not matter how old you are because we are all learning at the same pace. The greatest highlight so far has been working on the displays for Floriade. It feels really good to know that my work is going to be on show to all of the community.
If you want to be in this trade you need to be an energetic person. I mean you have to get up when it’s still dark but I love getting to work and getting the job done.
