Brenton Colley
Brenton Colley is an avid photographer and has already been recognised for his work. His self portrait was one of ten finalists for the National Youth Self Portrait Prize, run by the National Portrait Gallery in 2008.
Brenton's work featured himself at a bar late one night, after it was closed. "It's always nice to have some recognition." Brenton commented. "Competitions are good for the resume and also for getting your name out there. The teachers here encourage us to enter."
The CIT Bachelor of Design (Photography) course takes budding photographers on a journey through food, cars, fashion, portraits and products. "It's a great course, very comprehensive," says Brenton. "There are many enjoyable subjects and the teachers are very good at what they do." He highlights the traditional black and white film and printing of first year as a highlight for him and is looking forward to the third year of study which involves exhibition development and an industry placement.
Although not yet working as a photographer, Brenton hopes to assist a freelance photographer in Sydney or Melbourne for a couple of years to cement his skills before branching out as a freelancer himself.
