Summary:For Photography degree graduates, the photographic industry offers professional career opportunities in many commercial, technical and specialised photographic fields as well as associated photographic administration and management. Freelance and employment opportunities exist in publishing and broadcasting, marketing and public relations, sports and entertainment, education and community activities, medical and scientific and other specialist areas. When you complete the Advanced Diploma, you will be well qualified for freelance photographic practice or employment as technicians, assistants or production team collaborators in the photographic industry
Delivery Mode:Degree - 6 semesters full-time (approx. 23 hours per week)
Advanced Diploma - 4 semesters full-time
Job Opportunities:Degree - Commercial photographer, photographic illustrator, photography teacher, photojournalist, wedding and portrait photographer, digital image creator and developer
Advanced Diploma - Freelance photographer or employment as technician, assistant or production team collaborators in the photographic industry
Entry Requirements:  You must have

- an ACT Year 12 Certificate or equivalent OR
- be Mature Age with relevant work or other practical experience.

If students are from a culturally and linguistically diverse background, and are using English as a second language (both oral and written), they must have English skills equivalent to ASLPR Level 3, or IELTS 6, or Cambridge Proficiency 0 Level English, or TOESL equivalent.

All applicants must submit a Personal Statement, attend an interview and present a portfolio.
The applicant’s workplace communication skills will also be assessed at interview.
At interview, the applicant must present a portfolio consisting of ten selected pieces of visual art and/or design work, for example:
• photographic images in any format
• sketches and drawings in a variety of media
• documented work processes or visual diary.

The portfolio and performance at interview will assess:

• photographic skills
• aesthetic evaluation and judgment
• creative and innovative thinking
• motivation and interest in photography
• communication and computer skills
• career and industry awareness
• work experience, where relevant.
Availability:Student intake offered in Semester 1
Additional Information:  You will be encouraged to purchase your own photographic and computer equipment and associated software after consultation with staff. You may also be required to pay additional costs of approximately $1500 per semester associated with textbooks, technology, equipment, materials, stationery requirements, excursions and student exhibition fee.

The average cost of a full-time study load for stage 1 to 4 is approximately $850 a semester and will increase in 2012.

The final year in the degree program is subject to significantly higher tuition fees. Concessions do not apply to these subjects in the CIT degree programs. CIT now offers FEE HELP for the final year in the degree program - refer to CIT Degrees for more information and fee details. FEE-HELP, is an Australian Government loan scheme set up to enable eligible students to defer part or all of their tuition fees until they are working and can afford to pay them back.
