Summary:On completion of this program, you will have gained the knowledge and skills to contribute to the implementation of a broad range of contemporary OHS issues including compliance with OHS and related legislation, OHS consultation, systematic OHS management, hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control.
Delivery Mode:Certificate IV: 1 semester part-time (approx. 6-8 hours per week in the evening and daytime, plus weekend workshops/seminars)
Training Program in OHS Literacy and Communication: 2 semesters part-time (approx. 1 hour per week)
Training Program in OHS Management and Compliance: 1 semester part-time (approx. 6 hours per week)
Training Program in OHS Emergency Management: 9 weeks part-time (approx. 3 hours per week)
Training Program in Hazard Management: 1 semester part-time (approx. 3 hours per week)
Training Program in Incident Investigation: 1 semester part-time (approx. 3 hours per week)
Job Opportunities:These qualifications are useful for people wanting to gain entry level OHS officer/advisor positions in organisations where occupational health and safety is part of their duties, those wanting to teach OHS to Certificate IV level in a variety of Training Packages, and those wanting to progress in supervisor/manager positions.
Entry Requirements:  You must:
- be able to read and write documents and understand maths concepts to a level required to complete Year 12 OR be Mature Age (turn at least 20 in first year of study) OR have a relevant Certificate III qualification or equivalent OR have extensive vocational experience in OHS role/s OR other relevant experience
AND
- have access to a workplace for completion of assessable tasks
AND
- have basic computing skills (to succeed in the Certificate IV program, you need to have basic keyboard navigation skills and be able to use a Windows-type word-processing and database operating system).
Early in your program your skills will be checked - if you cannot read and write documents and complete maths work to the level needed, you will be enrolled in additional subjects to help you build the skills needed to successfully complete the program. Additional assistance in word processing and database are available if required.
Additional Information:  Purchase of appropriate personal protective equipment and CD-ROM/pen discs may be required for some subjects
