Scott Umbers - Horticulture

Besides teaching horticulture for 20 years, I have been successfully running my own landscape design and construction business for more than 25 years.

That combination is why you should let CIT and me assist you to achieve your dreams in this industry. By running a successful business alongside teaching, I understand the importance of teaching students the practical skills you will need. I can impart these skills using my own real life knowledge and experiences.

Each year I help CIT students create beautiful entries in our Floriade display gardens competition. Building the CIT display garden is a great opportunity for students to showcase their work while gaining valuable experience in construction and seeing a project through from inception to completion. We have won medals many times over the years - you will love it.

I am involved in WorldSkills, a national and international competition of excellence in trade apprentices, and have mentored many young people through this competition. Most recently, my former student Tom Ramsey represented Australia at the WorldSkills International competition in London in October 2011. I am a member of the Landscape Contractors Association of NSW and ACT, and our CIT course has a strong link to the Canberra region’s horticulture industry so future career pathways can more easily open up for you."
