Greg Pepper - Biometrics

I took an early retirement from the public service, having worked in areas including surveying, computing and project management.

I hadn't made up my mind about what I was going to do, and was looking for something that would transition me from the everyday workplace to other avenues of interest and lifestyle.

I was investigating a few different things and biometrics was an area that piqued my interest. I enrolled in the Certificate IV in Biometric Technologies at Canberra Institute of Technology, which I have now completed.

I found CIT incredibly flexible and easy to deal with. I was able to complete my course predominantly online, through eLearn, which was very convenient. I could study whenever and wherever I wanted to, and had access to library resources and staff when I needed them. We also used eLearn to communicate with other students in the course.

Some of the units included on-campus workshops which I found really interesting. The sessions were a great chance to interact with fellow students in person, and we gained hands-on experience at the CIT Crime Scene House.

One particular area of the course I really enjoyed was facial comparison. The Department of Immigration and Citizenship have opportunities in this area, and this might be an opportunity I look into in the future.
