Overview

As a biometric technician you will use biometric systems and imaging technologies to perform comparative analysis and process and interpret biometric information. You will also provide advice on biometric technologies/solutions and assist in the development and deployment of biometric systems/solutions for a range of industry specific applications; conduct biometric (fingerprint, face, iris and/or voice) identification and verification.

To meet AQF volume of learning requirements you will need to complete approximately 100 hours of additional non-supervised activity (practicing skills and knowledge in the workplace and undertaking self paced study).

Entry Requirements / How to Apply

You will have basic computing skills that include being able to operate a personal computer, other hardware, create and manage basic files, perform simple operating system tasks and work with more than one standard software package such as word processing, spreadsheets, database or web browser and be able to demonstrate basic literacy and numeracy skills by undertaking a literacy and numeracy assessment task (ASCF level 3).

You will require literacy and numeracy skills at an appropriate level to interpret multiple page documents, retrieve and understand information obtained from electronic sources, prepare multi-page reports and use problem solving to analysis basic statistical calculations.

Literacy Skills Information

We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework literacy levels of at least 3 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your program of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this program. See below to check your literacy skills. If you do not have this level, you can still enrol and seek support to improve your skills or you may prefer to begin with the lower level program.       Description: You will research, interpret and communicate technical and practical information on the application of biometrics in the workplace. You will require the ability to assess individual requirements and identify opportunities for the workplace application of a range of biometric devices, equipment and systems.  You will require an understanding of the operating principles, processes and parameters of biometric technology together with applicable legislation including privacy.  You will also need self-management skills to collect, organise and present information and to seek and evaluate feedback on the effectiveness of advice. This unit may form part of the licensing requirements for persons engaged in security operations involving biometric equipment and systems in those states and territories where these are regulated activities.
