Overview

This program provides the knowledge and skills needed to assist a dentist, dental hygienist or dental therapist during dental procedures, to help maintain high standards of infection control and to assist with practice administration. These dental assisting skills are practised and further developed under the supervision of the dentist in the workplace.
You must be employed as a dental assistant in a dental practice setting before enrolling in this course. Previous dental assisting experience is desired, but not essential. You may be employed in private or public practice and working in general or specialist practice.

To achieve this qualification, you must complete a minimum of 250 hours of practical work during your course of study.

This qualification is recognised throughout Australia.

To achieve this qualification, you must complete at least 250 hours of practical work in dental assisting. This practical work will be completed in your workplace.

Entry Requirements / How to Apply

You must:
- be employed in a dental surgery as a dental assistant.

If you are entering this program as a Trainee under the Australian Apprenticeships arrangements, you must be employed in a dental surgery to complete this program and you must register with an Apprentice Network Provider (ANP) prior to enrolment.

Literacy Skills Information

We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework levels of at least 2 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your program of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this program. See below to check your literacy skills. If you do not have this level, you can still enrol and seek support to improve your skills or you may prefer to begin with a lower level program, or enrol in the Certificate I in Skills for Vocational Pathways (FSK10213) to develop your literacy skills.
