Overview

The CIT Diploma of Graphic Design is well regarded by industry. This course will give you the skills to start your career as a graphic designer.

You will develop design concepts and produce designs that meet client's needs for a range of visual communication outcomes, either for print-based design work or digital media-based design.

You will gain a sound understanding of design theory and practice and be able to analyse and integrate information from a range of sources to generate original designs for a range of outcomes.

This course integrates both print and screen based applications of the design process.

Additional Information

The Diploma offered at CIT, integrates both print and screen based design. There are opportunities in the first year of the program, for you to experience both applications of the design process.

This is a fully commercial course with no concessions available. ACT Government Fee Assistance does not apply.

Entry Requirements / How to Apply

To apply for this qualification, you must

  • present a portfolio of your work at an interview which demonstrates your aptitude for design. Portfolios may contain examples of design solutions from a range of activities and media types and may include: drawing, photography, painting, printmaking or any graphic design projects you have undertaken. Your portfolio and the interview process may highlight gaps (for example using typography, graphic design industry software and a knowledge of graphic design trends and technologies) in your design skills, in which case, you may be asked to successfully complete the Preparatory Skill Set for Professional Graphic Design Practice just prior to beginning and before being eligible to enrol in the Diploma.

  • After you apply, CIT will email you with details about submitting a copy of your Australian Year 12 or how to complete the literacy assessment, and details about submitting other evidence or attending an interview if listed above.

    To study any course at CIT (excluding degrees and non-accredited training) you must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). This includes new students and re-enrolling students.

    Further Study

    It is possible to continue your study for an additional two semesters and gain the Advanced Diploma in Graphic Design.

    This program provides 24 credit points into the Bachelor of Web Design & Production or the Bachelor of Graphic Design.

    Literacy Skills Information

    We suggest that you will need Australian Core Skills Framework literacy levels of at least 3 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication and, depending on your program of study, numeracy skills to successfully complete this program. See below to check your literacy skills. If you do not have this level, you can still enrol and seek support to improve your skills or you may prefer to begin with the lower level program.     Qualifications at CIT are regularly updated or replaced to meet current industry needs and maximise your employment opportunities. If this occurs while you are part way through a qualification, you may need to vary your learning to meet the new national requirements. CIT will aim to make this as smooth as possible for you.
