CIT Takes Top Honours at the 2015 ACT Training Excellence Awards

Published: 04 Sep 2015

Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) was last night named Large Registered Training Organisation of the Year for the ninth year in the annual ACT awards ceremony rewarding achievement in vocational education and training.

"We are very pleased to receive this award, which demonstrates that we are working towards the achievement of our vision to be the leading provider of vocational education and training in the nation," CIT's Chief Executive Officer, Leanne Cover, said.

The awards also honoured the leadership of long serving CIT director Jerome de Rose for his outstanding contribution to VET and industry, and Adrian Marron, late CIT Chief Executive, for his dedication to the sector.

Along with these top honours for the organisation and its senior leadership, CIT also achieved great success in the individual student categories, with CIT Diploma of Marketing graduate Hanna Darmody winning ACT Vocational Student of the Year, and CIT carpentry apprentice Supi Ma'ilei taking the ACT Apprentice of the Year award.

"We are even more chuffed with the individual success of our students, and very proud to have been an integral part in their journey to achievement and success in their chosen field," Ms Cover said.

CIT students have enjoyed great success at both the ACT and national level of the awards in the past, with a number of national winners and finalists.

"Our mission as an organisation is to change lives through quality education and skills development, and we are very proud to know we have helped Hanna, Supi, and many of the finalists at this year's awards ceremony reach their personal goals," Ms Cover said.

Each individual winner and CIT will progress to the national finals, with winners to be announced on 19 November.

"We wish our students all the best in the next stage of the awards. They are fantastic advocates of the vocational education and training sector and have individually demonstrated what can be achieved when you have a passion, vision and commitment to success," Ms Cover says.

CIT also congratulates CIT-trained NSW Training Awards finalists Darcy Jones (horticulture - turf management) and Kevin Smith (electrotechnology).
