CIT receives generous donation for its photography students
08 Mar 2011
CIT is pleased to announce that for the fifth year it is the recipient of a generous donation of photographic lighting equipment valued at $90,000 from Sydney's Sun Studios.
For the use of students in the Bachelor of Photography program, the Broncolor equipment will be used in the teaching of creative and technical skills at the Reid campus studios until the end of the year.
Education Manager for Photography, Fashion and Visual Art at CIT, Penny Boyer, says this is a win-win partnership between industry and education.
"Students get the opportunity to learn with the latest in photographic lighting equipment, while the company is able to promote its equipment to the professional photographers of the future," Ms Boyer says.
CIT is recognised by Sun Studios as one of the leading photographic education institutions in Australia, which is why this initiative has continued for five years, including during the Global Financial Crisis.
Director of Creative Industries, Kerry Williams, says this donation is one of the reasons why CIT students are industry ready when they graduate from the program.
"CIT students receive tremendous benefit from using the very latest lighting when they're cultivating their talent and technique. With the skills they learn, they are ready to walk into workplaces and show their creative expertise," Ms Williams says.
At the end of the year, students and staff are able to buy the equipment at reduced rates. CIT Bachelor of Photography graduating students also have the chance to win a lighting kit from Sun Studios for producing the best portfolio demonstrating photographic lighting techniques.
