Diploma of Nursing information
Applications for Semester 1 2012 opened: Saturday 27 August 2011
There will be a full time and part time intake for the Diploma of Nursing for Semester 1, 2012.
Registration standards for Enrolled Nurses
From Monday 19 September 2011, registration requirements for Enrolled Nurses have changed.
All applicants who have completed a pre-registration program of study (Diploma of Nursing) will now be required to either demonstrate that they have:
- Completed five years of education taught and assessed in English
- An IELTS of 7 in each of the four components of listening, reading, writing and speaking or
- An Occupational English Test (OET) with A or B grades only, in each of the four components of listening, reading, writing and speaking

Interviews
Please note applicants are called to interview in order of receipt of application. Those called to interview MUST ensure they have evidence of the entry requirements to present at this time. Failure to have the evidence will prevent interview.
ONCE ALL PLACES ARE FILLED NO MORE INTERVIEWS WILL OCCUR.
Additional information regarding the Entry Requirements:
1. Personal Care experience (40 hours)
The 40 hours of referenced personal care work must be within a formal workplace setting. It should include helping and assisting another person to meet their personal hygiene needs. Ways this experience can be obtained could include, but not be restricted to, the provision of personal care in the following settings:
- Aged Care facilities
- Community Care programs
- Disability Support House
OR
the completion of qualifications which incorporate the provision of personal care such as:
- Certificate III/IV in Aged Care Work
- Certificate III in Home and Community Care
- Other Certificates III or IV where personal care work in a health care area is a substantial part of the qualification
2. Evidence of the required level of Literacy and Numeracy
This can be demonstrated by providing evidence of:
- an ACT Year 12 Certificate (or equivalent) with at least a "C" grade average in tertiary English and in accredited Maths
OR
- successful completion of the CIT Literacy and Numeracy test or equivalent.
Applicants who do not meet the entry and interview requirements will need to reapply, once the above requirements have been met.
Literacy and Numeracy Testing Session
There will be a final literacy and numeracy test on Friday the 13th January 2012 at 10am. Bookings are required, please call 62051375.
Test results
A pass mark of 70% or greater is required in the numeracy assessment and in the literacy assessment.
Applicants with unsuccessful testing results will be advised of recommended support classes available.
If you have already completed the numeracy and literacy test at CIT (or equivalent) and have achieved results of 70% or greater in each section, you are not required to repeat the test. Please note the pass mark is 70%.
